When we listen to the speeches of politicians they always tell us how they are going to change things if elected, and as we listen we think, yes, that would sure be nice. They will repeat to us, all the concerns we have, complaints we can muster, and speak in generalities, getting us to shake our heads. Indeed, this is what they teach you in political rhetoric 101, but we must also understand that real reform is a lot more than giving fancy speeches or pushing a podium towards the public.

You see, political-rhetoric is not, and has never been policy-reform, nor should anyone expect it to be in the future. Nevertheless, each time a new election comes, another one throws their hat into the ring, and starts ringing our ears with the same “buzz phrases” of political-rhetoric, and it seems to work every time. Even if we see through the nonsense, there will be enough believers to push through their first and primary agenda; to get elected.

Still, getting someone elected is not policy-reform, indeed, one could say it is the opposite, as we are merely putting someone, another someone into a political office using the same promises that were used the prior. That in fact, is the definition of insanity, not the reform we someday hope to see.

Shame on us or shame on them; well, it’s hard to say really. But, if we truly want change we are going to have to stop voting for this sort of nonsense, and start re-thinking whom we choose to lead us forward. Please consider that.
